On October 10th we celebrate World Mental Health Day, and this year’s theme is “Mental Health in an unequal world”.
People who experience some form of Mental Illness can feel stigmatized and discriminated against. This affects their physical and mental health, educational opportunities, current and future job prospects, and earnings as well as their professional and personal relationships.

To build a more equal society it’s imperative to leave stigma behind and instead be more aware, empathetic, and kind to others. We never know the struggle each person is going through.

Mental Health Stigma vs Mental Health Awareness

"Those with depression are lazy."
vs
"Those with depression are strong for fighting painful symptoms 24/7."
"Those with anxiety are rude."
vs
"Those with anxiety can be hypersensitive to their environment, and that can lead to negative consequences".
"Those with suicidal thoughts are attention-seeking."
vs
"Those who're suicidal should reach out to receive support that can help them stay alive"
“This person is mentally ill.
vs
“This person might just be currently experiencing mental illness.”
